The device and procedures for vision by computer (7,8) are for measurement and characterization of distribution of color in a sample. The spatial distribution is in non-uniform samples. The system comprises units of illumination, caption of the image, digitalization, storage, digital process, presentation of image and results. The digital image in input color is submitted to a procedure of analysis, which enables the predominant colors to be obtained, with specification of their chromatic coordinates in standard colorimetric systems. The dominant colors, together with the percentage of area which they occupy are shown on the screen (8) of the monitor. Characterization is complemented by the calculation of statistical moments of first, second, third and fourth order.
