PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for designating a position in video or audio contents and a reproducing apparatus in which a system automatically performs a program search in accordance with user's utilization purpose. SOLUTION: In the method for designating the position in the video or audio contents, a plurality of markers to which attribute information is added by a determined operation together with temporal position information are set at arbitrary positions in the contents, and the attribute information is searched to designate a marker added with attribute information that fulfills desired conditions, and so as not to designate a marker added with attribute information that does not fulfill the conditions.
