PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrophoretic display apparatus to decrease image defects (display speckles). SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the apparatus includes processes of: (a) forming an electrode 5a, an insulating layer 6a and a barrier wall 2 on a substrate 1a; (b) allowing an adsorbing member 7 to adsorb charged migration particles 4 by applying a voltage; (c) disposing the substrate 1a and the adsorbing member 7 opposing to each other; and (d) applying a voltage to transfer the charged migration particles 4 from the adsorbing member 7 to the substrate 1a and then sealing an insulating liquid 3 and the charged migration particles 4 with another substrate 1b. Thus, the charge amount and the particle density of the charged migration particles 4 can be properly controlled to decrease generation of image defects in the driving state. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
