PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving mechanism allowing the rotation ring of a lens barrel to perform a rotating-extending and rotating-housing operation accompanied with the movement in an optical axis direction and a fixed position rotating operation at the extending position with a simple and compact structure at low cost. SOLUTION: The lens barrel is provided with: the rotation ring capable of rotating on a turning center axis parallel with an optical axis; a non-rotating annular member supporting the rotation ring inside; an optical element advanced/retreated in the optical axis direction by the rotation of the rotation ring; an advancing/retreating mechanism provided between the annular member and the rotation ring and advancing/retreating the rotation ring between front and rear moving ends in the optical axis direction with respect to the annular member when rotating the rotation ring; and a circumferential-direction groove and a rotation guide projection sliding in the circumferential-direction groove which are provided on the inner circumferential surface of the annular member and the outer circumferential surface of the rotation ring, engaged when the rotation ring is moved to at least either the front or the rear moving end in the optical axis direction by the rotating advancing/retreating mechanism and rotating the rotation ring at a fixed position without moving the rotation ring in the optical axis direction.
