PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short fiber composed of polybenzazole, capable of sufficiently keeping the strength even when exposed for a long time under high temperature and high humidity and excellent in durability. SOLUTION: The polybenzazole short fiber comprises a basic organic compound such as p-phenylenediamine, m-phenylenediamine or a mixture thereof in a form of a monomer or a condensate and has≥75% retention ratio of tensile strength after exposed for 700 hr under the atmospheres of 80°C and 80% relative humidify.
