PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable refractometer for particularly measuring a sugar concentration in a solution, a concentration of a soluble solid content, etc. at a reduced manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The refractometer (1) is provide with a prism (2) having an interface (2A) for contacting a sample (20), light sources (4, 24) for generating a light entering from an entrance face (2B) of the prism into the interface and an image sensor (6) for receiving the light, reflected by the interface and exiting from an exit face (2C) of the prism. Only the prism as an optical element is provided on an optical path between the light sources and the image sensor. It is preferable that a slit (5) be disposed between the light sources and the entrance face of the prism. The light source (24) has a light emission face (26) which is processed to be flat. It is preferable that the light emission face be bonded to the entrance face of the prism through the slit, the image sensor is bonded to the exit face of the prism and the light sources are LEDs.
