PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer schlieren method distinguishing all pressure waves present in a high-velocity flow field of gas by different hues to visualize the pressure waves. SOLUTION: All pressure wave types present in the high-velocity flow field can be distinguished by code combination of a change rate (a value obtained by partially first-order-differentiating q with respect toξ) to a streamline direction of state quantity q (q; pressure p, densityρ, flow velocity U). Based on this fact, a progressive shock wave (a progressive compression wave), a regressive shock wave (a regressive compression wave), a progressive expansion wave (a progressive dilution wave), a regressive expansion wave (a regressive dilution wave) and a contact face are distinguished by different five hues so as to be visualized.
