PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a semiconductor laser driver in which a semiconductor laser can be prevented from emitting light only with a bias current and an oscillation threshold current even if the oscillation threshold current of the laser diode is increased due to ambient temperature rise, and to provide a semiconductor laser driving method and an image forming apparatus using the semiconductor laser driver. SOLUTION: An emission current generating circuit 11 constituting a current output type DAC generates an emission current Idac produced by adding a supplementary current Isub, obtained by adding a control current from an Isub control circuit 13 corresponding to a digital data signal SD2 from an initialization circuit 14 to the reference current of the DAC in the emission current generating circuit 11, to a current level Iηcorresponding to a digital data signal SD1 from the initialization circuit 14.
