PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element achieving both enhancement of luminous brightness as well as efficiency and durability in blue light emitting, and a display device using the element of high luminous brightness and excellent durability. SOLUTION: The element has a luminous layer containing a host compound and a phosphorescent compound, and the element is characterized in that any of layers constituting the element contains a cyclophane compound with a specific structure.
