A preventive and/or a remedy for vertebral canal stenosis which contains an aldose reductase inhibitory compound typified by a compound represented by the following general formula (I) (wherein each symbol has the meaning as defined in the description), its acid salt in the case where R<3a> is hydrogen, a solvate thereof, etc. (I) The above remedy is efficacious in preventing and/or treating vertebral canal stenosis such as lumbar vertebral canal stenosis.
