The oil separator has at least one cyclon (1) with a hollow cylinderical base part (11) and a conical end part (12), with a gas inlet (2) coupled to the crank housing entering the cylindrical base part tangentially and a gas outlet (3) coupled to the air intake for the IC engine provided by a pipe section (30) fitting through the end wall (13) of the cylindrical base part and projecting into the cyclon interior (10). An oil outlet (4), leading to the oil sump of the IC engine, is positioned at the lowest point of the cylindrical base part or the conical end part.
