PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where the number of hardcodexes mounted in a controller of a multifunction equipment is reduced, a sufficient treatment operation can be attained by less hard sources, and a setting/modification of used patterns can be flexibly carried out depending on the state in which functions are used by users. SOLUTION: The controller of the image forming apparatus(multifunction equipment 1) is equipped with two hardcodexes 15A and 15B performing an encode treatment or a decode treatment, one softcodex 12a performing encode/decode treatment by implementation of software, a memory means 13a to reserve a plurality of used patterns relating each treatment function and codexes 12a, 15A and 15B to be used each other, a switching means to select patterns to be used, and a control means to decide codexes 12a, 15A, and 15A to be used by referring the patterns selected by the switching means.
