The autonomous communication system has a transmitter positioned at a fixed point and sending positional information to a vehicle (170) mounted receiver (200) within the range of operation of the latter. The system has sensors for presence and displacement and a processor for the information feeding a transmitter for the data when a detection occurs. The communication system (100-150) can be mounted on a road sign panel (160).
