1,170,344. Friction clutches; clutch control. BORG-WARNER CORP. 24 July, 1967 [1 Aug., 1966], No. 33864/67. Headings F2C and F2L. A remote-spring clutch control linkage for a motor vehicle comprises a clutch engaging spring 58 anchored at one end to a bracket 28 fast with a clutch housing 12 and biasing anticlockwise a lever 56, pivoted at 50 to the bracket 28, and acting through a rod 76, a fork 20, a thrust bearing 16, clutch levers 19 and struts 17 to apply an engaging force to a presser plate 13 which clamps a driven plate 15 against a flywheel 23. The clutch is disengaged by a pedal (not shown) acting through a cable 72 on the lever 56. The length of the rod 76 may be adjusted to compensate for wear. A spring 80 maintains the fork 20 in engagement with the rod 76 during clutch disengagement. The clutch levers 19 pivot on a cover-plate 21 and tangential spring straps 27 between the coverplate 21 and presser-plate 13 urge the latter towards a clutch disengaged position. A stop 78 on the bracket 28 limits anti-clockwise rotation of the lever 56 and permits the subassembly comprising the bracket 28, lever 56, spring 58 and rod 76 to be pre-assembled prior to installation on a vehicle. |
