ADHESION PROMOTERS, FILM HARDENERS, AND WATER RESISTANCE MODIFIERS FOR ADHESIVES

Resinous glues/adhesives, caulks, and fillers commonly formulated with water as the solvent are improved in adhesion, water resistance, and hardness by the inclusion of a sulfonic acid derived compound such as 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS3*) or a salt thereof or an oligomer containing repeating units thereof. Additions of the sulfonic acid derived compound facilitates the use of these glues/adhesives, caulks and fillers in applications beyond their tradition application as primarily a wood adhesive.
