PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide configuration for reducing the electric power consumption of a shift register and reducing the number of wiring and realizing sure operation.

SOLUTION: A plurality of pulse generating sections belong to shift pulse generating units varying with portions of each of the pulse generating sections. The respective shift pulse generating units have state signal generating circuits for outputting state signals indicating that the pulse generating sections generate pulse signals to common wiring to be connected with the front and rear shift pulse generating units and clock supplying circuits for supplying clock signals to the pulse generating sections. The period when the clock supplying circuits supply the clock signals to the pulse generating sections by the state signals and a period when the circuits do not supply the clock signals are provided, and when the signals are supplied, the state signals from the front shift pulse generating units are inputted and the state signals are prevented from being inputted from the rear shift pulse generating units in the period.
