PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice cooker having a backlight for illuminating a liquid crystal display element displaying the contents of a rice cooking process for reducing the power consumed of the backlight in the standby state where unnecessary power supplied to an electronic circuit is stopped without performing rice cooking and warmth keeping operation. SOLUTION: An inner pot 14 is heated by a heating means 15 driven by a driving means 16, and the operation of the rice cooker is controlled by a microcomputer 10. A commercial power supply 17 is converted to direct current power by a power supply means 18, a second output voltage V2 supplying power to the driving means 16 is output, and the power supply state or the power supply stop state of the second output voltage V2 to the driving means 16 is switched by a current application switching means 22. The backlight 24 is provided on the rear face of a liquid crystal display element 23 displaying the current time or the contents of the rice cooking process, and when the current application switching means 22 is in the state of supplying the power of the second output voltage V2, the backlight 24 is put out by a first backlight control means 25.
