PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent film with high gas barrier properties which is best-suitably used for packaging, especially as a packaging material in food packaging. SOLUTION: The gas barrier film is structured of an organic matter layer with gas barrier properties laminated on at least one side of a thermoplastic resin film and a vapor-deposited thin film layer consisting of an inorganic oxide laminated on the organic matter layer. The organic matter layer contains a chemical compound (A) having two or more hydroxyls in a molecule and a chemical compound (B) having at least one carboxyl group bonded with each of not less than three connected carbon atoms in the molecule, and the mass ratio (A/B) of A to B is 65/35 to 15/85.
