PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data communication system which prevents the bandwidth of a large band bus connecting hubs from being pressed by isochronous data traffic. SOLUTION: The data communication system such as LAN or WAN is provided with an isochronous data transmission capability. The system multiplexes both isochronous data and non-isochronous data in the unit of 4-bit nibble in the time division manner and transmits the data by repeating a frame structure. Data arriving at the hub are demultiplexed to an individual channel for processing each of data streams by using appropriate hardware, for example. The data are hierarchically transferred from a source to the hub via nodes. The hub saves the data in an internal connection memory, performs switching onto the bus of the large bandwidth and distributes the data to another destination hub or node or combination with sink. When a source node and a destination node are mounted on the same hub, the hub performs direct local loop-back to the destination node, thereby making unnecessary to firstly place the transmission data on the bus.
