PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of poor machining accuracy of shape in aerial electric discharge machining for a generation machining wherein air is supplied as a machining medium into the gap between a pipe electrode and a machining target object. SOLUTION: Within an airtight chamber 7, a hollow pillar-shaped pipe electrode 1 is slidably attached as a cathode to a base stand while the target object is fixed as an anode to the upper lid of a cover 14 through an interval of a required machining gap, and a pressurized gas containing a specified volume of oxygen or nitrogen is supplied to the chamber 7. While a relative movement is executed at least in two horizontal axis directions (X and Y axes) by relative movement devices such as a machining head 3, a table 4 and a saddle 5, machining electric current meeting a specified processing condition is provided to the machining gap. Because the chamber 7 is supplied with the pressurized gas to be maintained at a specific pressure, the gas in the chamber 7 is caused to flow to the gap due to the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the chamber and then out of the chamber through a hollow hole of the pipe electrode which is the only passage between the interior of the chamber 7 and its exterior.
