PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying a thermosetting coating to a material to be coated, having a function for packing uneven surface and rustproof and beautifying functions and capable of forming thick coating film and to provide the thermosetting coating. SOLUTION: A metal material 1 to be coated is subjected to chemical treatment such as formation of coating film of zinc phosphate or mechanical pretreatment such as sandblast in order to obtain a surface state suitable for coating to provide the surface state suitable for carrying out coating and then, the thermosetting coating containing 35-40 wt.% alkyd resin, 5-10 wt.% melamine resin and 2-5 wt.% epoxy resin, 0.3-1.0 wt.% silicon dioxide, 7-14 wt.% talc, 5-10 wt.% barium sulfate and calcium carbonate, 1-3 wt.% bentonite and monocarboxylic amide-based organic material is applied to the metal material 1 to form a thermosetting coating film 2 having 10-500μm thickness and the coating film 2 is heat-cured at 110-160°C for 10-60 min to coat the material to be coated.
