<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a desired deceleration without being affected by the state of a frictional material when a vehicle during running is braked with an electric parking brake device. <P>SOLUTION: When the service brake of a vehicle fails during running, if a driver gives a parking brake application command to brake the vehicle by pressing an operation switch, the application of the parking brake is controlled in such a manner that the vehicle can be decelerated at a target deceleration Gt of a specified size which is set based on the number of times of pressing the operation switch. Therefore, the vehicle can be always decelerated at the target deceleration Gt even when the temperature or the wear degree of the frictional material of the parking brake varies, and a stable braking effect which is not affected by the state of the frictional material of the parking brake is acquired. In addition, the size of the target deceleration Gt is set depending on the number of times of pressing the operation switch, and the deceleration required by the driver is surely realized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
