PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is inconvenient to set a photographing position or a lens while providing and looking through an optical finder and costs are also increased since a view finder function can not be obtained with a one-dimensional image pickup signal in a line sensor camera apparatus. SOLUTION: The line sensor camera apparatus is provided with a control means for performing one-dimensional image pickup with a scan operation only by a specific scan line while using a CCD solid-state imaging device which is an area sensor as a line sensor, and a control means for performing ordinary two-dimensional image pickup, and an image is picked up by selecting any one of the means. Thus, the line sensor camera apparatus is operated as the area sensor when setting the lens or the like, and the picked-up image is used as a view finder. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
