PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an inexpensive substrate for a data recording medium corresponding to a high magnetic recording density by suppressing the oxidative decomposition reaction of a resin and an additive for the resin and extending the life of a stamper, and the data recording medium using the substrate. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the substrate for the data recording medium by injecting a thermoplastic resin in a mold to mold the substrate for the data recording medium, the concentration of oxygen in the molding space of the mold is held to 5% or less to perform injection molding.
