<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate emission of PM by burning PM with a heat-resistant filter, and further oxidizing residual PM with an oxidizing catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of heat-resistant filters 6 are provided in a tubular body 1 orthogonally to a flow of exhaust gas. A heater 8 is installed on an upstream side, and an oxidizing catalyst 7 is installed on a downstream side. Temperature of the exhaust gas flowed from an inlet pipe 3 is increased, and temperature of the heat-resistant filters 6 is increased by the heater 8 and heats the exhaust gas for efficiently burning the PM, so as to improve removal of the PM. The oxidizing catalyst 7 installed on the downstream side is maintained to a predetermined temperature by the heats of the exhaust gas, and a small amount of PM of fine grains not completely burned by the heat-resistant filters 6 is oxidized by passing through the heat-resistant filters 6, gasified, and exhausted, so as to eliminate emission of the PM. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
