PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device which improves positioning precision of a solid-state image pickup element and which corresponds to high pixel and to provide manufacturing method/device of the device. SOLUTION: A head end part 96 of a head part 86 sucks and holds a rear part 2b-side of a package 2 and it abuts on abutment reference faces 76a, 76b and 76c of an abutment reference stopper 62 forming an installation reference face S through a joint face 2f of an installation edge part 2c by an ascending operation of the head part 86 so as to be kept. The solid-state image pickup element 4 is sucked and held by an adsorption face 58a of an adsorption part 58 whose parallelism against the installation reference face S is controlled, and it is depressed to a base part 2a of the package 2 through adhesive 3 by a descending operation of the adsorption part 58 so as to be bonded.
