FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to bearing units for roll cartridges of modern high-speed wire mills. Proposed sliding bearing unit has shaft journal, housing, cylindrical holder provided with variable section ports narrowing to center of holder or from its center to periphery, in which antifriction shells are fitted. Outer and inner surfaces of each shell project relative to outer and inner surfaces of holder by 0.02-0.04 of shell thickness, respectively. Angle between side faces of shell is equal to angle between side faces of port and is either equal to self-braking angle or is less than said angle.
