PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an angule retaining mechanism wherein locking is not released easily in the state that an angle between the two members is retained even if the members are pushed strongly by a hand, and to provide an apparatus using the mechanism. SOLUTION: In the angle retaining mechanism arranged at a hinge junction between the two members of the apparatus, a segment gear 41 wherein toothing having slant like a helical gear is formed, and a lock piece 42 which is engaged with the segment gear 41, are arranged. On the lock piece 42, a spring 43 which energizes the lock piece 42 to a lock position and can be moved to a lock release position is arranged. When angle variation is generated between the two members, component power of lock state maintenance is generated between the segment gear 41 and the lock piece 42 by angle variation in a certain direction, and component power of lock state release is generated similarly by angle variation in an opposite direction. The locked state is released by bringing a lock release piece 44 into contact with the lock piece 42 to move the lock piece 42. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
