PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which realizes white balance adjustment for preventing fading of a flesh color, with a light processing load. SOLUTION: A white detection circuit 18 detects an achromatic area having an achromatic color or a color approximating an achromatic color in a subject and integrates color difference signals of pixels corresponding to the achromatic area. A controller 20 discriminates the existence of a flesh color in the subject when integral valuesΣ(R-Y) andΣ(B-Y) of color difference signals received from the white detection circuit 18 are within a prescribed range indicating a flesh color and a gain of a primary color signal R is equal to or lower than a preliminarily set prescribed threshold. The controller 20 calculates gains of primary color signals R and B in a white balance circuit 12 on the basis of integral valuesΣ(R-Y) andΣ(B-Y) of color difference signals and the discrimination result indicating whether a flesh color exists in the subject or not.
