<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas mixture containing NO of a predetermined concentration to be supplied to the active lungs together with respiratory gases, and an apparatus to supply the gas mixture to the active lungs. <P>SOLUTION: The gas mixture contains an inert, nontoxic trace gas of the predetermined concentration. The apparatus includes a gas source (4) for containing the respiratory gases, an air inspiratory tube (12) for supplying the respiratory gases and NO to the lungs, and an air expiratory tube (20) for exhausting the respiratory gases and NO from the lungs. A second gas source (14) supplies NO to the air inspiratory tube (12) in the form of the gas mixture, and a gas densitometer (24) is provided in a gas passage to measure the concentration of the trace gas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
