PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an excess of speed limit without being conscious of a speed meter and to prevent the excess of speed limit due to missing of a traffic sign in an accelerator of an automobile constituted to control traveling speed by the operation of an accelerator pedal. SOLUTION: This accelerator is constituted of a traveling speed detecting part for detecting traveling speed of the automobile, a target speed setting part for setting target speed, an arithmetic part for comparing the traveling speed with the target speed, and a repulsion increasing mechanism for increasing/decreasing repulsion of the accelerator pedal corresponding to the arithmetic result in the arithmetic part. When the traveling speed exceeds the target speed, the repulsion is increased and a driver is made to sense this effect, and at the same time, the accelerator pedal is pushed back for speed reduction. When the traveling speed becomes slower than the target speed, the repulsion is stopped to be increased and the accelerator pedal is made easy to be stepped. A speed control device is connected to a car navigation system, the speed limit on a road during traveling is read from the car navigation system, and the speed limit is set as the target speed.
