PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hermetic compressor for obtaining the refrigeration capacity according to changes in outside temperature and loads. SOLUTION: This hermetic compressor has an intake pipe 193 as an intake flow passage with one end thereof substantially directly-connected to an intake hole 150a and the other end thereof opened in a space in a hermetic container. A motor is driven at two or more kinds of predetermined frequencies by an inverter device 212. The refrigeration capacity according to changes in outside temperature and loads is obtained by demonstrating a supercharging effect by increasing the density of intake refrigerant gas in addition to the control of the number of rotation, and the power consumption is reduced thereby.
