PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly switch a stepping motor at the same speed without irregular rotation before and after switching when switching it during its continuous rotation. SOLUTION: This stepping motor driver, which can drive the stepping motor in two or more kinds of excitation modes, searches for the step where the current values in the first excitation mode and the second excitation mode become the same when switching the stepping motor during drive in the first excitation mode into the drive in the second excitation mode, and performs the control of switching a first excitation mode into a second excitation mode at the point of time when it has reached the step where the current values in the first excitation mode and the second excitation mode accord with each other. For the basic clock of advancing the excitation step, the number of clocks being the common multiple of each number of clocks required per cycle of each excitation mode within the bounds of possibility of switching is used.
