Method for cutting mineral bonded materials using a fluid jet with or without abrasive additive to remove the binder in the cutting zone and thereby leave an open surface for bonding to a replacement layer

A method for cutting mineral bonded materials, e.g. asphalt road covering, uses a fluid jet, water and/or compressed air, to remove the binder between the aggregate in the cutting zone. The pressure and flow rate of the jet is selected for optimum removal of the binder. The binder can also be removed with high pressure steam. The cutting process leaves an open surface which provides a good bond when the excavation is refilled. The improved bond prevents cracks and crevices and produces a high quality finish.
