PURPOSE: A device and a method for compensating a mounting position of a lateral acceleration sensor are provided to compensate a lateral acceleration value measured by the lateral acceleration sensor mounted to a position but a gravity center of a vehicle, with a lateral acceleration value of the gravity center of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A device for compensating a mounting position of a lateral acceleration sensor(10) comprises a microcomputer(30) sensing a mounting position of the lateral acceleration sensor and compensating for a lateral acceleration value detected when the sensed mounting position is not a gravity center of a vehicle, with a lateral acceleration value of the gravity center of the vehicle. The microcomputer comprises a yaw rate calculation part(32) inputting a sensing value output from a yaw rate sensor(20) and outputting a yaw rate value of the vehicle; a lateral acceleration sensor position-deciding part(31) to sense the mounting position of the lateral acceleration sensor; and a lateral acceleration value-compensating part(33) inputting the result decided from the lateral acceleration sensor position-deciding part and compensating for the value sensed from the lateral accelerations sensor, with a measured value of the gravity center if the lateral acceleration sensor is not mounted to the gravity center of the vehicle.
