<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus, which easily and precisely estimate scattering characteristics of a medium to be measured, i.e., concentration of scatterers or the like, when optical scattering characteristics of the medium to be measured containing the scatterers are varied. <P>SOLUTION: The method which projects light into the medium to be measured containing the scatterers and marker components and estimates the scattering characteristics of the medium to be measured based on the spectra of detected light, is provided with a procedure which obtains a standard function from spectra of light detected from a medium to be measured with known scattering characteristics in order to calculate the concentration of the marker components, a procedure which obtains a relation of the deviation between variation values of the scattering characteristics and estimate values estimated by using the standard function of the marker component concentration, and a procedure which obtains estimate values from the spectra of the light detected from the medium to be measured with unknown scattering characteristics by using the standard function of the marker component concentration and determines the unknown scattering characteristics from the deviation existing in the estimate values. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
