PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a battery with improved safety having a specific gas adsorbing property, restricting deterioration of battery performance, and to provide a battery using the same. SOLUTION: The separator for a battery composed of a porous film containing a thermoplastic resin and a filler has such a property that adsorbs one or more kind of gas selected from CO2, CO, CH4, and C2H4within a normal temperature range.
