An information medium includes a lead in area and a data area capable of recording an arbitrary information signal. The lead in area has a recordable portion where an information signal can be recorded. The recordable portion of the lead in area has an identifier I₁ defining a recording speed applicable when recording an information signal in the data area. This increases accuracy defining the recording speed.
