PURPOSE: A method for detecting a starting point using a mobile communication station in a car navigation system using a GPS is provided to guide correctly a car by receiving the information including a present position from a mobile communication station. CONSTITUTION: A user stores a favorite starting point list and a favorite destination list in a memory(S300). The user selects a desired starting point from the starting point list displayed on a screen(S310). A navigation system checks a GPS zone(S320). The navigation system finds a present position by using a GPS if the present position belongs to the GPS zone(S325). The navigation system displays the present position on the screen by using a cell position of a mobile communication station if the present position does not belong to the GPS zone(S330). The navigation system displays a guide message if the user indicates an error of the displayed present position(S355). The navigation system determines the displayed present position as the starting point if the user does not indicate the error of the displayed present position(S360,S370).
