The invention comprises 2,4-dinitro-1,3,5-triisopropyl benzene and a process for the preparation thereof which comprises nitrating 1,3,5-triisopropyl benzene in a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon with a mixture of nitric and sulphuric acids. Hydrocarbons specified include nheptane and petroleum hydrocarbons boiling at 122-124 DEG C. The hydrogenation of the dinitro compound to obtain the amine is mentioned. An example is furnished.
