<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the energy required to operate a battery cooling system for a hybrid automobile and so on. <P>SOLUTION: A battery 3 is cooled by a refrigerating machine 6 operated with waste heat from an engine 1. The heat is absorbed from the engine 1, and the refrigerating machine 6 operates with the absorbed heat to cool the battery 3.
