PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to open a cover for easily conducting work of inspection, cleaning, replacement, etc., in a sheet feeding device in which a pickup roller with the cover is exposed outside a main body unit when a manual insertion tray is opened, and an image forming apparatus provided with the device. SOLUTION: A pickup means 280 is composed in such a way that a principal part of it is exposed outward of the main body unit as a sheet containing means 254 is opened when used, and that it is folded into the main body unit with a cover member 281 in accordance with action of folding the sheet containing means 254 to be stored in the main body unit when not used. The cover member 281 is composed in such a way that at least the principal part of the pickup means 280 is exposed when the cover member 281 is rotated in the reverse direction to that when stored as the sheet containing means 254 is opened.
