A composition for transdermal and/or transmucosal administration of active compounds that ensures adequate therapeutic levels

A pharmaceutical composition suitable for the transdermal or transmucosal administration of one or more active agents, in form of a gel or a solution, comprises an active agent and a permeation enhancer. The active agent is i) an androgen hormone or ii) a sedative or anxiolytic of the type benzodiazepine or amide such as butoctamide, diethylbromoacetamide, isovaleryl-diethylamide and the permeation enhancer is a combination of a) saturated fatty alcohol of formula CH3-(CH2)n-CH2OH or saturated fatty acid CH(CH2)n-CH2COOH or unsaturated fatty alcohol of formula CH3(CnH2(n-1))-OH and n is 8 to 22; b) a ternary vehicle or carrier consisting of a C1-4 alkanol, a polyalcohol and water and c) optionally a monoalkylether of diethyleneglycol or the active agent is iii) antihypertensive agents and a permeation enhancer is a combination of: a) saturated fatty alcohol of formula CH3-(CH2)n-CH2OH or saturated fatty acid CH(CH2)n-CH2COOH and n is 8 to 22; b) a ternary vehicle or carrier consisting of a C1-4 alkanol, a polyalcohol and water and c) optionally a monoalkylether of diethyleneglycol or the active agent is iv) an anti-inflammatory agent and the permeation enhancer is a combination of: a) saturated fatty alcohol of formula CH3-(CH2)n-CH2OH or saturated fatty acid CH(CH2)n-CH2COOH or unsaturated fatty alcohol of formula CH3(CnH2(n-1))-OH or unsaturated fatty acid of formula CH3-(C2H(2n-1))-COOH and n is 8 to 22; b) a ternary vehicle or carrier consisting of a C1-4 alkanol, a polyalcohol and water and c) a monoalkylether of diethyleneglycol.
