PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multifunctional intellectual electronic apparatus and a multifunctional intellectual electronic method for monitoring signals including demand measurement, harmonic spectrum, digital fault recording (DFR), and monitoring control/data collection (SCADA) functions for reporting. SOLUTION: The multifunctional intellectual electronic apparatus (IED) 10 comprises an AC subsystem 82, a digital signal processing system 84 for processing data received by the AC subsystem, and a microprocessor system 86 for controlling the IED. The IED can be directly connected to the field sensor of a power distribution circuit. The AC subsystem 82 in the IED is combined with a plurality of transformers (T1, T2, T3) where each of them operates regarding one of phases 1-3 of a power line, and performs switching depending on whether the current of the primary winding in the corresponding transformer is in a measurement range or in an overcurrent (DFR) range.
