PCV VALVE ADAPTER

A ventilation system (10) comprising a housing structure such as a valve cover (12) including a neck forming a cavity (14). A typical PCV valve (16) is at least partially disposed within the cavity (14). The PCV valve (16) includes an end portion having a barb (32). A hose (18) is arranged about at least a portion of an exterior surface of the neck (14). An adapter (36) supports the end portion, preferably by the barb.(32) The adapter (36) is arranged within the neck (14) and, in one embodiment, is axially and radially located relative to the neck (14) by an annular groove (24) at the end portion of the neck (14) receiving a portion of the adapter (36). The upper surface of the adapter (36) may be tapered downward toward an opening of the PCV valve (16) to permit condensed oil to drain back into the valve cover (12). The adapter (36) also includes one or more apertures (42) for receiving a tool to remove and replace the PCV valve (16) from the neck (14).
