It is intended to provide a neurotrophic factor production promoter which contains, as the active ingredient, N-acetyl-L-pipecolinic acid or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt and is usable in preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer~s disease, Parkinson~s disease, spinal injury, Huntington~s disease, brain infarction, cranial trauma, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, diabetic or drug-induced peripheral neuropathy and retinal neuropathy.
