PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fit an upper nozzle to a prescribed position without removing stuck material, such as skull, even when such stuck material exists in the deep part of the inner hole of a nozzle receiving brick. SOLUTION: In an upper nozzle 10 which is inserted into the inner hole 2a in a nozzle receiving brick 2 arranged at the bottom part of a molten metal vessel 1 and which allows molten metal to flow out, at least one line of recessed groove 11 for notching is formed in the circumferential direction at the tip end part of an upper contracting tapered surface 10a matching a tapered hole part 2b in the inner hole 2a of the nozzle receiving brick 2. When the stuck material S exists at the deep part of the inner hole in the nozzle receiving brick 2, this upper nozzle is inserted and fitted after cutting the tip end side at the recessed groove 11 portion for notching.
