PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for imparting spin to an optical fiber so that not only primary polarization mode dispersion by distance but also secondary polarization mode dispersion generated by wavelength can be controlled appropriately. SOLUTION: In an optical fiber manufacturing method using an optical fiber preform, an optical fiber drawing method utilizing spin amplitude asymmetric control is characterized by including a melting/drawing process for melting the end part of the optical fiber preform by heating and drawing, a primary spin forming process for imparting a certain spin in the previously set direction crossing with the drawing direction of the optical fiber, and a secondary spin forming process for imparting an additional spin by a prescribed spin function to the optical fiber to which the primary spin has been imparted.
