PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which effect of electromagnetic trouble is suppressed and toner consumption can be reduced when a solid black part is printed. SOLUTION: Three lines (one line five pixels) of pixels in 3×5 matrix of image data to be printed are stored in line registers 21, 22 and 23 and each pixel of these line registers are inputted to a matrix selector 24. When the matrix selector 24 detects that a pixel to be interpolated is a black pixel and all surrounding pixels are solid black pixels, a pattern register 26<SB>-1</SB>outputs dot signals of black, black, white and white sequentially. Subsequently, a pattern register 26<SB>-2</SB>outputs dot signals of white, black, black and white, a pattern register 26<SB>-3</SB>outputs dot signals of white, white, black and black, and a pattern register 26<SB>-4</SB>outputs dot signals of black, white, white and black sequentially to a laser scanner unit 14.
