PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in a large capacity paper feeding device provided with an LCT wherein it is very difficult to detect paper size by a conventional detection system in which a sensor detecting paper width is provided inside a paper loading base on which a side fence moves because positions of the side fence and LCT are greatly changed in the ascent and descent directions (vertical direction) depending on paper loading amount. SOLUTION: Positional relation in ascent and descent directions Z of sensors 86a to 86d for detecting paper width on each tray and a light shading plate 201 is not changed even if a pair of side fences 20a, 20b are moved in the direction Y of paper width. Moreover, since the sensors 86a to 86d for detecting paper width on each tray are not directly arranged on a paper feeding tray 7, paper size can be detected in accordance with positions of the pair of side fences 20a, 20b irrespective of ascent and descent of the paper feeding tray 7 even if the paper feeding tray 7 ascends and descends for the pair of side fences 20a, 20b.
